Mike Rambaut In 2005 Michael Rambaut was appointed Secretary-General of CIRM the International Association of Maritime Electronics companies, a technical trade organisation and a non-profit making non- governmental organisation. He represents the interests of the CIRM members at the specialised agencies of the United Nations specifically the IMO in London (International Maritime Organisation) and the ITU in Geneva (International Telecommunications Union. He specialises in the regulations and standards for the equipment CIRM members develop and manufacture for the world’s merchant shipping fleet. Michael was educated at Ampleforth College and subsequently completed his technical training with Ferranti Ltd in Manchester, gaining an HNC in electrical and electronic engineering with a good theoretical and practical foundation in all aspects of the electronics industry in 1971. At Ferranti’s he worked in semiconductor applications specialising in microwave amplifiers. He joined the International Marine Radio company in 1973 as a senior development engineer developing communications systems for merchant ships. He stayed with the company through 4 changes of ownership (ITT, STC, Nortel and MTI) rising to Technical director a position he held for 10 years, putting the company into the satellite communications age with the first Inmarsat maritime telephone equipment.
